A Dolly Deeds Civic Action Program
Small Deeds. Big Wings.
The Butterfly Brigade transforms the spirit of Dolly Deeds into hands-on community service. Its initial national mission is to help protect monarch butterflies by encouraging people across the United States to create, restore and maintain monarch and pollinator habitat using appropriate native plants.

01
Bring together friends, neighbors, classmates, coworkers or community organizations. A Brigade can begin with a small group of people willing to help.
02
Find an appropriate location for monarch habitat — schools, libraries, parks, community centers, hospitals, senior centers, and more.
03
Use regionally appropriate native milkweed and nectar-producing native plants. Monarch caterpillars depend on milkweed.
04
Submit the garden to Dolly Deeds. After review, approved gardens appear on the national map and contribute toward the One Million Wings goal.
A good deed rarely ends with the person who receives it. Kindness travels. One person helps another. A child learns something new. A neighbor decides to volunteer. A garden becomes habitat. A single deed creates another. And another.
Generosity creates a ripple. And sometimes that ripple begins with the flutter of a wing.
